Report: Fan arrested over gesture
A 59-year-old man was arrested following an alleged racially aggravated public order offense at Saturday's FA Cup soccer match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Merseyside Police said the man from North Wales had been taken to a police station, where he would be questioned by officers, Sky News reported.
Police made the arrest after studying TV footage following the posting of an image on Twitter, which showed a man making a monkey gesture in the crowd, according to multiple reports.
It was the first time the two teams had played each other since Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was found to have racially abused Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during a league match last year.
Suarez was banned for eight games by the English Football Association (FA), which found him guilty of "using insulting words towards" Evra.
Liverpool won Saturday's match 2-1 to progress to the fifth round of the knockout competition.
