The Portland Timbers have traded forward Kenny Cooper to the New York Red Bulls for a first-round pick in the 2013 draft and allocation money.
The trade was announced Thursday during Major League Soccer's SuperDraft.
Cooper had eight goals and two assists in 34 matches for the Timbers last season, but he was inconsistent.
The 27-year-old scored Portland's first MLS goal, but wound up coming off the bench for a string of games in July. He had four goals in the team's last seven games.
Cooper came to the Timbers after a stint in Europe that was marred by injuries. He was an All-Star with FC Dallas, and has 48 goals in 124 career regular-season MLS games.
