Real Madrid coach: FIFA must compensate for player injuries

MADRID (AP) Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez is angry over injuries sustained by footballers while playing for their countries just as the Spanish league gets underway and says FIFA must compensate clubs for their losses.
Benitez said midfielder James Rodriguez and defender Danilo returned injured following ''insignificant'' matches with their national teams.
Madrid had earlier confirmed Danilo broke a bone in his right foot after playing in Brazil's two friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States, while Rodriguez tore a left thigh muscle while playing for Colombia in a friendly against Peru.
Benitez said Friday that when players worth millions come back unable to play, they are still paid salaries by clubs.
Benitez said ''compensation should be paid, absolutely.''
