Rangers were omitted from the fixture list for next season due to the indebted club's liquidation process, the secretary of the Scottish Premier League said Monday.

Iain Blair said Rangers had been left off the fixtures after the league received an application ''to transfer their place to a newco.''

Rangers' place in the top tier of Scottish football remains uncertain. If the application is rejected, another club will be ''invited to join the SPL,'' Blair said in a statement.

The decision on the application is expected July 4.

A consortium led by Charles Green completed the purchase of the 140-year-old club on Thursday, two days after British tax authorities rejected a deal to save Rangers from bankruptcy as they seek to pursue individuals for money owed.

Rangers' tax debts of 21 million pounds ($32.5 million) are among the club's liabilities.
