Hughes is determined to bolster his defensive options after seeing his side ship five goals in their opening day of the season defeat against Swansea.

Hughes has targeted moves for Tottenham's Michael Dawson and Real Madrid's Ricardo Carvalho, but has seen bids for the pair stall.

The Loftus Road chief is now ready to turn his attentions to Wolfsburg defender Kjaer as he looks to bring in a new central defender.

Kjaer has found himself out of favour at Wolfsburg and spent last season on loan at Roma.

The German club are thought to be willing to let Kjaer move on and a switch to England is believed to interest the 23-year-old.

A number of clubs are thought to be chasing Kjaer, who impressed for Denmark at Euro 2012 alongside Daniel Agger, but QPR are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by striking a deal for the player.
