Prince Ali seeks postponement of FIFA presidential election
Prince Ali bin al-Hussein's lawyers have moved to have the FIFA presidential election suspended.
His legal representatives, based in Paris, confirmed on Friday that they have made an official request to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to suspend the vote because of a dispute over voting arrangements.
The Jordanian prince, one of five contenders to succeed the ousted Sepp Blatter, had wanted transparent voting booths used at the congress but this was rejected by FIFA's election commission.
And, in a statement, Al-Hussein's lawyers said: "FIFA opposed our request for an accelerated procedure so that these questions could be decided before February 26.
"It was therefore natural that Prince Ali goes to the CAS (on Monday)."
Al-Hussein, Sheikh Salman bin al-Khalifa, Gianni Infantino, Tokyo Sexwale and Jerome Champagne are the five FIFA presidential candidates for Friday's election.
Sheikh Salman of Bahrain is considered the favorite, having gained the support of both the Asian Football Confederation, of which he is president, and the Confederation of African Football.
