Sporting Gijon have confirmed the departure of Manuel Preciado as coach.
Manuel Vega-Arango, the president of the Primera Division strugglers, made the announcement at an emotional press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
"Perhaps it is, but I refuse to call this a termination or a dismissal, I call it a change on the bench," Vega-Arango told realsporting.com.
"How difficult and how painful decisions are to make sometimes."
Preciado took charge at Sporting in 2006 and led them into the top flight in 2008.
The Asturian club are second from bottom in the Primera Division and have won just one of their last six league games.
The club confirmed that Inaki Tejada will coach the side against Osasuna on Sunday.
