Porto says Paulo Fonseca is to take over as the northern Portuguese club's coach for the next two seasons.
In a brief statement Monday it says ''Fonseca will be the new coach of FC Porto.''
The club says Fonseca will sign a contract taking over from Vitor Pereira, who coached Porto since 2011 but left Sunday to join Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli after clinching the last two Portuguese league championships. Pereira had been criticized by fans for failing in the Champions League and the Portuguese Cup.
The 40-year-old Mozambique-born Fonseca led Pacos Ferreira to third in the Portuguese league this season, earning them a spot in the Champions League qualifying playoffs.
