Portland Timbers' Gleeson, Ridgewell arrested, booked for DUII

A pair of Portland Timbers players, goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and captain Liam Ridgewell, were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants Monday night, according to multiple reports.

Portland's KATU reports that Gleeson was involved in a two-car crash and called Ridgewell for assistance. When police arrived on the scene, as a result of "an OnStar-like service" in Gleeson's car that alerted the authorities, both players refused to take breath tests and failed field sobriety tests. The woman that drove the car Gleeson hit fled the scene but was later found. Gleeson is being charged with DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangerment, while Ridgewell is facing DUII charges. Their court hearings are scheduled for Nov. 16.

The Timbers released the following statement on Tuesday:

"The team is aware of the events that occurred last evening involving players Jake Gleeson and Liam Ridgewell and is in the process of gathering information on the matter. The team has been in close contact with the players, local law enforcement and the league office. The club will not have further comment until more information is available."
