Robert Pires, John Carew and Nigel Reo-Coker head a list of 10 players released by Aston Villa as part of the Premier League club's overhaul of its squad.
All three players were at the end of their contracts, with former France international Pires only having joined on a short-term deal in October when he was without a club.
Norway striker Carew was the leading scorer in each of his first three seasons with Villa but was loaned to Stoke in January.
Midfielder Reo-Coker cost 8.5 million pounds ($14 million) from West Ham four years ago and leaves alongside Moustapha Salifou, Isaiah Osbourne, Harry Forrester, Arsenio Halfhuid, Durrell Berry, Ellis Deeney and Calum Flanagan.
