Javier Pinola has played down speculation linking him with a move away from Nurnberg by announcing his desire to remain with the club.

The Argentinian's contract expires at the end of the month, but he has promised to sign a new deal as soon as he returns from his summer holidays in South America.

"Of course, I have had other options and I needed time to weigh things up, but I see my future with Nurnberg and I would like to carry on playing for this club and these fantastic fans," said the 27-year-old on the club's website.

Pinola had been repeatedly linked with a transfer this summer, particularly since Nurnberg only just avoided relegation to the second division thanks to a play-off win over Augsburg at the end of last term.

However, the Bavarian club have worked hard on convincing him to stay put.

"Pino told me on the telephone that he has decided to stay with us," said the club's director of sport Martin Bader.

"That is great news since Pino is an important foundation of our team and we all know what meaning he has for our club and our fans."

Pinola arrived in Nurnberg in 2005 and remained with the club, despite their relegation to the second division two years ago.

He was also part of the side which won the DFB-Pokal in 2007 and appeared in the UEFA Cup the following season.
