Pardew wants one more signing
Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye and Mehdi Abeid have already arrived at St James' Park this summer but Pardew is on the lookout for further reinforcements. He told Sky Sports News after a disappointing 3-2 pre-season defeat at Leeds on Sunday: "We need another player, we are conscious of that." Newcastle face another friendly against Fiorentina next Saturday before beginning their Premier League season by hosting Arsenal. Pardew said at Elland Road: "I think the 11 starters that we will have against Fiorentina will be a lot stronger than today. That will be reflected. "But we are not pitching in against a mid-table team in the first game. We are pitching in against Arsenal, who are one of the top teams in the division. "We know we need to focus and make sure, so we are putting our work in."
