A Paraguayan coach has resigned, saying his club cannot win if he is forced to play a former national team star who was shot in the head.
Cabanas was shot 2 1/2 years ago at close range in a Mexico City bar. Since then, he has staged a miraculous recovery and began playing earlier this year with Paraguayan third-division club 12 de Octobre.
Rolando Chilavert quit as 12 de Octobre coach and told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he can't win the league if Cabanas plays, which club directors have ordered.
Cabanas can walk and run but can't dribble and pass as he used to and has limited vision in his left eye.
A bullet fragment is lodged in his skull, which doctors decided was too risky to remove.
