Former player Omar Daf will take charge of Sochaux in a caretaker role as the struggling club looks for a successor to coach Eric Hely.
Hely resigned after Wednesday's 5-1 defeat at promoted Guingamp left Sochaux rooted to the bottom of the French league, but will continue to have a role in the club.
President Laurent Pernet said on Friday there are ''four to six names on our short list'' to become full-time coach and that ''it's not a decision to be taken lightly.''
Daf played over 200 games for Sochaux at right back and Pernet says ''he has the necessary qualities for this temporary mission.'' The 36-year-old will be assisted by Eric Pegorer and Bernard Gines.
Sochaux has yet to win a match and hosts 19th-place Valenciennes on Saturday.
