David Moyes thinks even Sir Alex Ferguson would have struggled with the current Manchester United squad this season.
United are guaranteed to end the season with their lowest points total in Premier League history despite the 4-1 win against Aston Villa, but Moyes insists any manager would have had difficulty turning what he describes as an "ageing" squad into title contenders.
"If Sir Alex were here this year it would be difficult for him as well and I'm sure he'd agree," the United manager said.
"People are aware there's a squad that is ageing, so it would have been a tough season for whoever was in charge of United this year. It could have been the case no matter what."
