MOSCOW (AP) UEFA has hit Moldova with a fine and partial stadium closure after ruling its fans displayed racist flags during a European championship qualifying game.

As well as the racism charge, Moldova was also punished for crowd disturbances and use of pyrotechnics during the Oct. 9 home game against Russia, which Moldova lost 2-1.

Moldova must close part of its stadium for its next UEFA competitive home game and has been fined 15,000 euros ($16,600).

There was a heated atmosphere at Moldova's game against Russia, with many home fans singing an offensive song about Russian President Vladimir Putin and some displaying the flag of neighboring Ukraine.
