Moenchengladbach names Andre Schubert as interim coach
MOENCHENGLADBACH, Germany -- Former Germany under-23 coach Andre Schubert is to take over at Borussia Moenchengladbach on an interim basis following the surprise resignation of Lucien Favre.
Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl says ''Schubert immediately agreed to help us. Everything's happening very quickly but he's looking forward to the challenge.''
Favre went public with his resignation Sunday night after Eberl had turned it down in afternoon talks.
Favre took over at Gladbach in February 2011 and saved the club from relegation. The 57-year-old Swiss oversaw consistent progress in the following years, culminating with the side's third-place finish for direct Champions League qualification last season.
However, five straight defeats and a goal difference of minus 10 this season ensured his side made the worst start to the Bundesliga since Nuremberg in 1981.
