MK Dons enjoy emphatic victory

It was the visitors who looked like the top-flight team as they ran rings around the Canaries, scoring twice in each half to record a thoroughly deserved second-round victory. Norwich fielded a completely different side to the one that drew 1-1 with Stoke on Sunday but it still featured five of the line-up which started at Wigan the previous week - and they were simply outclassed by the slick-passing Dons. Doing the talking for manager Karl Robinson, Gorman said: "Karl is very proud of the way we played tonight and I think he wanted the staff to get some of the credit as well. "Karl is a good young manager and I think he has got the potential to follow in the footsteps of (Norwich boss) Paul Lambert and achieve what he has achieved over the past couple of years, hopefully with a little bit of help from myself. "We have got the team playing the sort of football we want to see and it was great to come to a stadium like this, play a good Norwich side and show what we can do. The challenge now is to play like this week in, week out. "Norwich showed us respect by fielding a strong team and we went out to try an impose our style of play on them. I think we played exceptionally well tonight and there is no doubt we have got the makings of a very good side. "We passed the ball very well, scored some good goals and in the end I thought we were quite comfortable. "It was nice to see the Norwich fans applaud us off at the end, which I know the players really appreciated. With the sort of football we are playing at the moment hopefully more people with come and see us play at Milton Keynes." Paul Lambert offered no excuses as he reflected on his heaviest defeat since taking charge at Carrow Road a little over two years ago. "It was very disappointing," he said. "Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. We just never got going and you have got to give credit to MK Dons who deserved to win the game. "We win as a team and we lose as a team. I don't want to focus on any particular area. We put out a strong team tonight but we didn't play well and were beaten by the better side on the night. "I have not had many experiences like this since I have been here - but they say you learn more from your defeats than you do from your wins and hopefully that will be the case. "I picked the team and I take full responsibility for tonight. When something like this happens it is my fault." The Dons took the game by the scruff of the neck by scoring twice in seven minutes midway through the first half. Former Norwich winger Luke Chadwick set them on their way by slipping the ball under the body of rookie keeper Declan Rudd after a fine pass from Stephen Gleeson before Sam Baldock doubled their advantage from 25 yards out, his low shot completely deceiving Rudd. The game was over as a contest on the hour mark when an excellent passing move ended with Chadwick coolly slotting home and the Dons rubbed salt in the wounds on 67 minutes, substitute Daniel Powell latching on to a terrible backpass from Andrew Surman to make it 4-0.
