Maxi Rodriguez rejoined his former club Newell's Old Boys on Friday, moving back to Argentina after a decade in Spanish and English football.
Newell's President Guillermo Lorente announced the signing of Rodriguez, who has played for Liverpool in the Premier League since 2009. The midfielder also played for Atletico Madrid and Espanyol in Spain.
Rodriguez, 31, played for Newell's before moving to Espanyol in 2002.
The winger scored one of the most memorable goals of the 2006 World Cup, giving Argentina a 2-1 victory in extra time over Mexico with a stunning left-footed volley to put his side into the quarterfinals.
