Marseille keen to strengthen

Marseille boss Elie Baup has revealed he is looking to strengthen his squad in January to maintain their Ligue 1 title challenge.

OM go into Sunday's clash at home to St Etienne, their last before the winter break, firmly in contention with Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon and the top of the table.

Back-to-back wins away at Bastia and Toulouse have got the hosts back on track after a shock home defeat to Lorient, but Baup knows there is still room for improvement in his squad.

"We are working to improve the size and quality of our squad," he said on the club website.

"We will see if this can be achieved and I think we'll be able to get the player or players we need.

"If we can build and there are opportunities in the market to have one or two more players to play in the league and the Coupe de France it would be good, but I have no particular names."

Marseille have had a full week to prepare for the match with St Etienne and Baup warned his side not to lose their concentration with the break around the corner.

"We are focused on St Etienne and making every effort to put Father Christmas and presents to one side and give our all in this important match."

The visitors could also do with a win with a run of four matches without victory hitting their own Champions League hopes.

St Etienne have lost two and draw two in a miserable December to fall eight points behind their opponents.

Coach Christophe Galtier admitted his side had to stop the rot, saying: "We need to rediscover our game."
