Hull boss Phil Brown hailed a "great defensive performance" against Tottenham, with goalkeeper Boaz Myhill earning special praise.

Montgomery famously pulled off a double save to deny Leeds - and there were hallmarks of that performance as Myhill earned the Tigers a point against Tottenham to lift them out of the relegation zone.

"There were 18 matches left and we asked the players to bring the best to the table, that is what Boaz Myhill did," said Brown.

"He responded Jimmy Montgomery-style. He didn't just do it on one occasion but two or three.

"It was a great defensive performance from us, highlighted by the contribution of the goalkeeper. The attitude was spot-on from everyone. We could have nicked it but we didn't nick a point, we deserved a point."

Myhill pulled off two double-saves, denying Robbie Keane both times on the rebound. He also made fine stops from Luka Modric twice, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, in his 500th Premier League match as a manager, took heart from creating so many chances but was also full of praise for Myhill.

"What can you do?" asked Redknapp. "The keeper has had an unbelievable day and will never play like that again in his life. They were miraculous saves, five or six incredible, world-class saves."

Redknapp was also frustrated by Hull's time-wasting tactics, which led to Nicky Barmby being booked before the half-hour mark.

"They played six minutes of stoppage-time at the end of the game, four in the first half. That tells you," Redknapp said. "The referee needs to book players quicker, that's the way to deal with it.

"It makes it difficult. They are in a difficult position, scrapping for points and Phil will go home happy but it's not for me."

If Barmby had shown better composure, Hull could have snatched all three points, but the midfielder went wide in the second half.

But the performance from Hull still erased the memories of the 5-1 defeat at the KC Stadium in the first week of the season.

"It was fresh in my mind, as if it happened yesterday," Brown admitted. "I got it wrong that day in terms of formation and selection.

"It can be a psychological lift being out of the bottom but we also go to Old Trafford to face Manchester United next week. Then we have three home games and they could define our season."

Brown, meanwhile, is also busy in the transfer market, with Amr Zaki among the players he is talking to.

"He is a player we are interested in," he confirmed.
