Malaysian goalkeeper Mohd Sharbinee Ramli saved a penalty Sunday to help his side advance to the second round of Asia's World Cup qualifiers on away goals despite losing 3-2 to Taiwan in Taipei.
Mohamad Aidil Abd Radzak put Malaysia ahead in the eighth minute with a 35-meter free kick, before Taiwan's Chang Han equalized in the 31st minute. Safiq Rahim edged Malaysia ahead again in the 40th minute from a free kick, but Taiwan again surged back and scored twice from the spot as Chen Po-liang and Xavier Chen converted penalties in the 44th and 75th.
In between, Sharbinee Ramli stopped a Chen penalty in the 61st minute.
In the first leg of the tie on Wednesday, Malaysia defeated Taiwan 2-1.
