Magath hands Cats Kuranyi hope
The former Germany international reaches the end of his contract in June but recently stated that he would be happy to extend his stay in Gelsenkirchen. However, the club's financial position is such that Magath said there would only be enough money to keep hold of Kuranyi if they can qualify for Europe's elite club competition. "Our priority remains to get Schalke on a stable financial basis," Magath said. "Our wage structure is based on a club playing in the Champions League. "If we do qualify for it, and earn around 25 million euros, then we can talk to Kuranyi. "If not, then it is unlikely that we keep hold of him." The Royal Blues are considering selling Kuranyi and several other players this winter, but despite reported interest from Sunderland in the 27-year-old, Magath says his telephone has remained quiet. He told the Bild newspaper: "Agents are talking a lot, but up to now we have not received an actual offer from any club. "Our philosophy remains that any player can leave at the right price, apart from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. "We are certainly not going to sell four players, but definitely one or two."
