Monaco's new signing, Moussa Maazou, will be out of action for several months after spraining his right knee at training.
The Niger striker left Bordeaux during the transfer window after falling out with the club's fans. Monaco said in a statement he will undergo an operation on Wednesday.
Monaco hired a late replacement for Maazou, with Pascal Feindouno joining the club as a free agent on a six-month contract.
Feindouno told France Football's website that he wants to help the club stay in the first division. Monaco is 19th in the French league and battling relegation.
