Lyon collect first Ligue 1 win at Guingamp; Bordeaux draw Saint-Etienne

Forward Claudio Beauvue came off the bench to score against his former club as Lyon earned a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Guingamp in the French league on Saturday.

Lyon signed Beauvue from Guingamp in the offseason after he scored 17 league goals last term, many of those playing as a winger. He pounced in the 79th minute with a looping header from midfielder Jordan Ferri's right-wing cross.

Lyon boasted its heralded strike duo of Alexandre Lacazette and Nabil Fekir - who scored 40 league goals between them last season - and new signing Mathieu Valbuena, but none of them threatened much, although Fekir went close with a curling free kick midway through the first half.

The win gives Lyon four points, two less than provisional leader Caen, which sealed a second straight win after beating Toulouse 1-0 at home thanks to a 70th minute goal from center half Damien Da Silva.

Toulouse striker Wissam Ben Yedder hit the crossbar with a firm header just seconds from the end.

Also Saturday, Saint-Etienne's poor record against Bordeaux continued as it conceded a last-minute goal to draw 1-1.

Winger Romain Hamouma gave Saint-Etienne the lead in the 58th minute, only for Bordeaux forward Henri Saivet to score from a free kick.

The draw means Saint-Etienne has now won only three of its past 24 matches against Bordeaux.

''We started the second half well but then tiredness crept in,'' Hamouma said. ''That's the third direct free kick we've conceded from in two games. It's a real pity for the three points.''

Saint-Etienne forward Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, who recently joined from Paris Saint-Germain, had a penalty appeal waved away late in the first half and instead was booked for diving.

The home side improved in the second half and, after striker Nolan Roux went close with a back heel, Hamouma scored with a low shot from the left side of the penalty area.

Bordeaux pressed for an equalizer and Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier tipped away defener Cedric Yambere's header in the 78th.

But he was powerless when Saivet found a gap in the defensive wall and curled in a free kick.

Elsewhere, Polish striker Kamil Grosicki scored his first goal for Rennes as the Brittany side beat last-place Montpellier 1-0, and 10-man Troyes clawed back from 3-1 down to secure a 3-3 home draw against Nice.

Troyes took the lead through striker Correntin Jean's second-minute goal, but former France winger Hatem Ben Arfa equalized and striker Alassane Plea made it 2-1 after 15 minutes.

Then, after Troyes center-half Chris Mavinga was sent off for a second yellow card in the 30th, defender Maxime Le Marchand made it 3-1 close to halftime. But Troyes roared back thanks to goals from midfielder Fabien Camus and then midfielder Xavier Thiago leveled in the 90th.

In Saturday's other match, Angers drew 0-0 at home to Nantes.

On Sunday, PSG hosts promoted side Gazelec Ajaccio and troubled Marseille - looking for a new coach after Marcelo Bielsea's shock resignation moments after last weekend's opening game - travels to Reims.

Lorient faces Bastia in the other match.

Ambitious Monaco, which finished third last season, dropped points in a 0-0 draw at home to Lille on Friday night.
