Low: Schalke in the title race
Germany coach Joachim Low has tipped Schalke as possible Bundesliga
winners this season after watching their 4-1 win over Eintracht
Frankfurt.
That win took the Royal Blues to within two points of league
leaders Bayern Munich with nine games of the season to go.
Schalke still have to face both Bayern and third-placed Bayer
Leverkusen between now and the end of the season and, under the
shrewd guidance of three-time Bundesliga winner Felix Magath, who
led Wolfsburg to a shock title last season, Low believes this could
be their year.
"Schalke can certainly say a word in the title race," he told
Sky television.
"They are coming from behind and have nothing to lose. They
can only win.
"That makes them dangerous, just like Wolfsburg last year.
Nobody had them down as a candidate.
"Schalke are very well organised and have a lot of
self-confidence."
Magath is still refusing to believe his side can win the
league, though, and said that Saturday's comprehensive win looked
better on paper than it had on the field.
"With all due respect, we have got to play better than this
against bigger opponents," he said. "We were not dominant at all. I
am glad that we won, but it was not as clear cut as the result
indicates."
