LMA apologizes for the wording of its Malky Mackay press release
The League Managers Association has apologized for the wording of its press release on Thursday in relation to Malky Mackay.
The LMA stepped in after Mackay and former head of recruitment Iain Moody were implicated in a damning dossier submitted by Cardiff to the Football Association, accusing the duo of being racist, sexist and homophobic in a series of text messages during their time together at the club.
The LMA claimed Mackay was "letting off steam to a friend during some friendly text message banter" but it has now backtracked on that position.
The statement on Friday read: "The LMA apologizes for some of its wording in its release yesterday, which was inappropriate and has been perceived to trivialize matters of a racist, sexist or homophobic nature. That was certainly not our intention.
"It is beyond argument that any comments that are discriminatory, even used in private, are totally unacceptable. The LMA remains absolutely aware of our responsibility to the game and to promote and uphold the highest standards of behavior.
"The LMA will not be commenting further on the allegations relating to Malky Mackay whilst the FA conducts its investigation, other than to repeat that both the LMA and Malky will be cooperating fully.
"We will continue to work with all of the game's stakeholders to address the important issues of respect and discriminatory behavior in all its forms."
Mackay has made clear he will co-operate fully with the FA investigation into the matter.
The former Cardiff manager issued a statement of his own through the LMA late on Thursday apologizing for messages 'disrespectful to other cultures' which were exposed just as he was poised to return to management with Crystal Palace.
But he denies sending homophobic or sexist messages during text correspondence with Moody and has vowed to set the record straight once the FA investigation is complete.
