LA Galaxy vs Columbus Crew: Three Key Moments
After six winless matches, the LA Galaxy were able to get back in the win column with a 2-1 victory over the struggling Columbus Crew.
After five draws and one win in their last six games, the LA Galaxy were desperately in need of a win. They got it with a victory over the Columbus Crew who have struggled for all of 2016. Even though this was a predictable result, Los Angeles desperately needed to pick up three points.
The Crew were looking for their first win at the StubHub Center since 2007 in this one. Their losing streak at the Galaxy continued as they lost their second straight match. Columbus are now winless in their last four games.
With the win, the LA Galaxy are now tied for second place in the Western Conference with the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake. Each team has 43 total points and Los Angeles has a record of 10-4-13 this year. Columbus continued their disappointing season and with the loss they are now tied with the Chicago Fire at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 26 points.

1. Baggio Husidic’s Long Range Strike
LA Galaxy midfielder, Baggio Husidic, came on for Mike Magee in the 65′ minute. He had the goal of the game, and maybe of the week, with his long-range effort in the 78′ minute. His shot from way outside of the box found the top right corner of the net as he scored his second goal of the season.
2. Gio’s Chip Shot
Giovani dos Santos has now hit double-digit scoring in his first season in MLS with his beautiful chip shot in this game. Gio scored his 10th goal in the 82′ minute with a one on one chip over Columbus’ goalkeeper.
3. Bruce’s 200th Win
After the Crew cut LA’s lead to only 2-1 in extra time, the final whistle blew and Galaxy manager, Bruce Arena, completed his 200th career MLS victory. He become only the second MLS coach to ever reach the historic mark along with Sigi Schmid. He’s had to wait since July 23rd, when he got #199, until now to get 200.
