Manuel Pellegrini is confident Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany can finally put his injury problems behind him.

Kompany has not played since March 15 after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury, which has dogged him throughout the campaign.

It is also the latest in a long line of injury problems the Belgium international center-back has suffered since joining City from Hamburg in 2008.

Kompany is set to make his return to action at Newcastle on Tuesday and Pellegrini believes the City skipper has the mental strength to ensure he is not affected by his previous setbacks.

"He is a very strong player mentally so seeing him working... I think he is without any problems and he is working 100 percent with normality," Pellegrini said.

"So I don't think he has any mind problems and I hope that we will see him returning to his best performances."

Pellegrini also said he had no fears about Kompany being able to handle City's busy schedule, with a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid to come later this month.

"I think he's able to play two games a week... Maybe he must review a lot of things, as other players do, to try to have less injuries," he added.

"But when he's fit, I think he can play two or three games a week without a problem."
