Kean better for experience

The Scot was the surprise choice at the helm for Rovers' new owners Venky's following Sam Allardyce's exit in December. Kean's lack of experience left many wondering if he could keep the club up and he has been through much adversity during his brief tenure. However, Blackburn retained their top-flight status on Survival Sunday courtesy of a fine 3-2 win over relegation rivals Wolves. Kean admits he left no stone unturned during the club's bad patch in order to get things right, although he never doubted that he was the right man for the job. "I know I'll be a better man for the experience of keeping Blackburn up," Kean told the Daily Record. "When you go on a run of matches without winning it's only natural you sit down and examine everything you're doing. "How you cope with your problems is to simply work even harder on the training ground. Everything that's been good for us followed on from doing that. "It's an amazing feeling to have kept the club in the best league in the world. Now my ambition is to buy the players who'll ensure we don't have to go through another Survival Sunday a year from now. "Money matters play on your mind when you're down at the bottom, of course they do. If a team goes down to the Championship there's a percentage of wage deduction built into players' contracts. "Relegation affects everything at a club. But now I'm thinking optimistically about getting us into the top half and bringing a trophy to Ewood Park." Kean's only regret last Sunday is that Birmingham City were relegated meaning that good friend Alex McLeish was no longer managing in England's top flight. The Rovers boss has revealed that McLeish still found time to congratulate him on guiding Blackburn to safety despite the fact that Blues will be playing Championship football next term. "My only regret over last weekend was that we lost one of our number, Alex McLeish, when Birmingham suffered relegation," he continued. "But it's the mark of the man that Big Eck still found time to send me a text message on Sunday night congratulating me."
