Kathy Carter leaving post at Soccer United Marketing

NEW YORK (AP) Kathy Carter is quitting the marketing arm of Major League Soccer after her unsuccessful bid to become the U.S. Soccer Federation's president.

MLS said Monday that Carter's final day as president of Soccer United Marketing will be Friday.

Carter was on the local organizing committee for the 1994 World Cup in the U.S., joined MLS in 1994 as vice president of corporate marketing, moved to SUM in 2003 and has been president of SUM since 2010. She took a leave of absence in December to run for USSF president.

The 48-year-old Carter lost to USSF vice president Carlos Cordeiro in February's election and returned to SUM, which is the exclusive marketing partner of the USSF and represents the Mexico Football Federation.
