Ghana has promoted James Kwesi Appiah to head coach of the national football team from his assistant role.
The Ghana Football Association made the announcement in a statement on Monday.
Appiah replaces Goran Stevanovic, who was fired last month after the team lost to Zambia in the semifinals of the African Cup of Nations in February.
Appiah, who has been an assistant coach since 2008, will meet the GFA executive committee on Tuesday to ''formalize the deal.''
