Former Netherlands center back Jaap Stam is joining Ajax as a coach.
The four-time European champions say Stam is signing a three-year deal to become a defensive coach starting July 1, when his current contract with PEC Zwolle ends.
The powerful defender ended his playing days with two seasons at Ajax after a career that took him to clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lazio and AC Milan.
Stam played 67 internationals for the Netherlands.
