Ivory Coast beats Israel 4-3 in friendly

Ivory Coast forward Gervinho provided the inspiration for the African side's 4-3 victory against Israel in a friendly on Wednesday.
Arsenal's main offseason signing set up powerful right-foot strikes by Yaya Toure in the 44th minute and Didier Konan Ya in first-half stoppage time.
''I was very satisfied with his performance,'' Ivory Coast coach Francois Zahoui said. ''Unfortunately he wasn't able to score from his two or three chances.''
Gervinho's trickery led to Max Gradel going close in the 59th, and he curled a 20-meter (20-yard) shot just wide seven minutes later.
Substitute Moussa Kone made it 3-0 in the 69th connecting with Gradel's cross. Kone had replaced Toure at halftime after the Manchester City midfielder was left limping on a sore left ankle after scoring despite a fierce challenge by Tal Ben Haim.
Israel substitute Itay Shechter broke clear to pull one back in the 76th. Three minutes later, another Israeli substitute Maor Melikson's deflected shot deceived Ivorian goalkeeper Boubacar Barry.
Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba converted an 81st-minute penalty to restore his side's two-goal lead, before Melikson's penalty in the 87th completed the scoring.
Both teams used the match, watched by 2,000 people at the Stade de Geneve, to prepare for continental qualifying matches next month.
Ivory Coast, which has already booked its place at the 2012 African Cup of Nations co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, travels to Rwanda on the weekend of Sept. 2-4.
Israel trails Greece by one point in their 2012 European Championship pool, and hosts the group leader on Sept. 2.
