Inter Milan coach Mazzarri signs contract extension until 2016
Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri has signed a one-year extension with the club which keeps him at the San Siro until 2016.
The Italian moved to Inter from Napoli last summer and guided the Nerazzurri to fifth in Serie A and a place in the Europa League.
Although the campaign was a vast improvement on the ninth-placed finish the season before which saw the dismissal of Andrea Stramaccioni, Inter still finished 18 points adrift of a Champions League spot, and Mazzarri has vowed to return the club back to the higher echelons of the European game.
"First of all I'd like to thank president Erick Thohir," he told inter.it. "He's shown once again that he believes in me and the project we began a year ago.
"I hope to be able to repay the faith shown in me with my work on the pitch. I'll do everything in my power to get Inter back where the club belongs in Italy and Europe."
Mazzarri came to prominence after guiding Livorno back to Serie A in 2004 and went on to lead Reggina and Sampdoria before guiding Napoli to the Coppa Italia title in 2012.
"We're very happy to have extended our coach's contract," said Thohir.
"With this extension we have made it clear that Mazzarri is a cornerstone of our project.
"I'm confident with the hard work and dedication he has shown he'll achieve great things at this club."
