Inter Milan produced a composed display to defeat Cagliari 3-0 at home in their Coppa Italia clash on Tuesday night.

The Serie A leaders coasted into the quarterfinals after Rodrigo Palacio ended his 11-game goal drought before Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic completed a comfortable evening's work at the San Siro.

Lega Pro Alessandria pulled off a shock 2-1 extra-time win at Genoa to book their place in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals.

The Piedmont club became the first side from Italian's third tier to reach the last eight of the knockout cup competition for 32 years. Alessandria, who had already sent Palermo out in the earlier rounds, took the lead at the start of the second half through Manuel Marras.

The Lega Pro side were forced to play out the closing stages with only 10 men following injury to Gianni Manfrin when all the substitutes had been used, and the Serie A side took advantage to conjure a stoppage-time equaliser through Leonardo Pavoletti.

However, the home side were not to be denied a famous victory as with 114 minutes on the clock, Riccardo Bocalon rolled in a dramatic winner.

Alessandria will face the winner of the tie between Roma and Spezia, which is to be played on Wednesday.
