Paris St Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has escaped sanctions over his clash with Lyon defender Dejan Lovren last month.

The Sweden international was summoned before the French league's disciplinary commission over an incident in December 16's 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes in which he trod on the head of the Croatia international.

The commission took no action against Ibrahimovic after doubt prevailed over whether the contact was deliberate.

A statement on lfp.fr, the league's official website, read: "After the presentation of the player's advocate and the representatives of PSG, and reading the referee's report produced after reviewing the footage of the incident, the commission considered that it could not establish beyond doubt that the player intentionally stood on his opponent and that there was no cause to sanction the player."

The incident sparked a bitter war of words between the two clubs at the time. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas labelled the clash a "massacre", with PSG sporting director Leonardo accusing Aulas of having "an inferiority complex".
