Hughes shrugs off Barker exit

Barker left the Shakers on the eve of the new season to take charge of League One newcomers Crawley - a job that bases him much closer to his family in Brighton.

That left Peter Shirtliff and Ben Futcher in caretaker charge of Saturday's 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat to Middlesbrough where Hughes netted his first goal for the club.

He told Bury's official website: "Nothing has changed, Shirty has told us that nothing is going to change. That's football, that's the way it should be.

"Things happen in football and you move on, players move on and managers move on. We get paid by the club, not by the manager. Richie has gone and all the best to him. His new team will do well, but not as good as us.

"You can hardly blame him for taking it with his family living so far away. It must have been tough for him.

He's gone and he will be forgotten soon, some will probably have forgotten him already. I'm grateful that he brought me here, he gave me a chance but we move on now."
