Houllier hopeful of Young stay
Young has been linked with possible moves to Liverpool and Tottenham after another string of impressive performances for the Villans this season.
The England international, who has 18 months remaining on his current deal, has already indicated he wants to put talks about his future on hold until the summer.
Houllier said: "Ashley knows that the club's will is to keep him. I'll keep him until the end of his contract and to keep the club developing.
"He told us very clearly that he would like to end this season and see what he'll do and we respect that.
"Let's wait and see. At the moment I can tell you that we'll assess things a bit later on. But in the meantime I don't think he'll leave in January. I don't think so."
Young is battling to be fit for the home Boxing Day clash against Tottenham because of a knee injury.
Villa will also do battle with Manchester City, Chelsea and Sunderland during the festive season, with Houllier looking for a significant increase on their current tally of 20 points.
The Frenchman feels Villa have deserved a better reward for their performances in recent months.
He said: "I am fully focused on the games, starting with Tottenham. The most important thing is to pick up points. We have 20 points, which is not enough.
"You could say easily, for those who have followed our games, that we could have maybe five or six points more, which would put us in maybe seventh or eighth position.
"Unfortunately we dropped points but now have to be focused on the 21 games left to play. The games will come thick and fast."
