PIRAEUS, Greece (AP) Ciprian Marica's 10th-minute penalty kick was enough to give Romania a 1-0 away victory over Greece in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier Sunday.

Romania won despite playing a man down from the 53rd minute when Marica, their team captain, was given a second yellow card for a harsh challenge on Andreas Samaris.

Greece had the possession but created few chances. Vassilis Torosidis' header, which glanced off the crossbar in the 89th, was the only time the hosts came close to equalizing.

''The game was not good, but we deserved the draw,'' Greece's new coach Claudio Ranieri said.
