Hertha Berlin has signed Norway goalkeeper Rune Almenning Jarstein of Viking Stavanger.
The Bundesliga club says Jarstein will join the club on Jan. 1 in a free transfer and will receive a contract lasting through mid-2016.
Hertha's regular goalkeeper is Thomas Kraft, a former Bayern Munich player. His understudies have little or no Bundesliga experience.
Hertha is having a surprisingly strong season after being promoted, and is seventh, with one match to go before the winter break.
