Hamburg has signed 17-year-old defender Lennard Sowah from Portsmouth on a three-year contract.
Hamburg said on Tuesday that Sowah, who grew up in the northern German city, is joining from the relegated English Premier League club on a free transfer.
The Germany Under-18 international says he is happy to be back in his home city ``and to be able to develop further'' with Hamburg.
