Gimnasia defeated Huracan 2-0 on Wednesday in Argentina's relegation playoffs.
The victory in a one-off match put Gimnasia into a further two-legged playoff, beginning Sunday, with second division San Martin de San Juan. The winner of that contest will play in the top flight next season, while the loser will join Huracan in the second division.
Famous Buenos Aires club River Plate was playing later Wednesday in the first of a two-game playoff against second division Belgrano. The winner will play in the first division next season and the loser drops to the second tier.
River Plate has won more first division titles than anyone - 33 - and has never been relegated.
