Mario Gomez and Andre Schuerrle scored as Germany defeated Uruguay 2-1 in a friendly in Sinsheim.

Walter Gargano pulled one back for the South Americans at the start of the second half but they could not find an equaliser.

Bayern Munich star Gomez put the hosts ahead after 20 minutes, dispossessing Diego Lugano before finishing well.

Schuerrle doubled Joachim Low's side's advantage 15 minutes later, firing home from the edge of the area after being picked out by Mesut Ozil.

Diego Forlan almost snatched a last-minute equaliser but saw his shot superbly tipped over by Germany keeper Manuel Neuer.
