Phillip Cocu has been appointed coach of PSV Eindhoven on a four-year contract, replacing Dick Advocaat.
Cocu, who had two spells at PSV as a creative midfielder and also played for Barcelona and 101 times for the Netherlands, was caretaker coach in 2012 after Fred Rutten was fired.
Cocu said Monday he aims to use his long tenure to improve PSV's youth academy and develop home-grown players into first-team stars.
Advocaat, who led the team to second place in the Dutch league behind Ajax in his one year in charge, rounded off his contract with a 3-1 loss to FC Twente on Sunday, calling the defeat ''a disappointing end to a disappointing season.''
