Fletcher could feature at Ewood

Key midfielder Darren Fletcher could play some part in Manchester United's attempts to secure a record 19th league title on Saturday.

Fletcher came through a reserve-team outing against Blackburn on Wednesday night.

His season has been scarred by a virus he picked up in March that laid him low for almost two months.

The Scotland skipper is viewed as a likely starter in the Champions League final against Barcelona on May 28 but is still to start a Premier League game after suffering a huge weight loss that has proved difficult to replace.

However, Fletcher completed 65 minutes of a 2-1 defeat to Blackburn at Old Trafford and will now hope to be involved at Ewood Park as United look for the point required to confirm another championship, which would be his fourth.

"We still have to get that point," Fletcher told MUTV. "We still have a job to do. The Chelsea result has set us up but we want to win the match."

Fletcher reported no ill-effects from his latest outing, although his disappointment at a defeat which has cost United their chance to clinch the overall reserve league title was obvious.

"Minutes on the pitch are important," he admitted. "But I am disappointed with the result.

"As a first-team player I was wanting to put in a good shift for them and I am disappointed as everyone else by the outcome."
