Filipe Luis joins Atletico Madrid from Deportivo

Defender Filipe Luis has joined Atletico Madrid from Deportivo La Coruna in a transfer worth a reported ?13.5 million.

The Brazilian fullback passed his medical to complete the deal. The length of the contract was not revealed.

The 24-year-old Filipe Luis has been Deportivo's standout player over the past two of his four seasons at the club and was on the verge of joining Spanish champion Barcelona before last season.

He also gained his first international cap with Brazil last season but his chances of playing in the World Cup were dashed after breaking his right ankle in January.

Atletico finished ninth in the league in last season and won the Europa League.
