FIFA's best goal of 2016 wasn't scored by Neymar or Messi
FIFA has announced the final three nominees for the Puskas Award, given to the player who has scored the year's best goal. The 10-person shortlist has been pared down the final three, with voting already open. The award is voted on by fans at FIFA.com with the award being presented at the ceremony on January 9, 2017 in Zurich.
The players on the list aren't household names, but their goals (which can be seen on YouTube) are absolutely fantastic. They beat out the likes of Neymar's flick-and-volley vs. Villarreal and Lionel Messi's sizzling free kick against the United States, so you know they were impressive.
The three finalists are Corinthians attacking midfielder Marlone, Venezuela’s Daniuska Rodriguez and Malaysia's Mohd Faiz Subri. They're all certainly deserving candidates, and each goal offers something special. Marlone's chested control into a scissor kick is sublime. Rodriguez's goal features mouthwatering solo skill against Colombia. And Subri, the first-ever nominee for Malaysia, his kick just simply defies physics.
Pick your favorite and vote! Tallies from this final round will be added to the previous round of voting to determine the winner.
