FIFA is investigating Wolfsburg's signing of Asian Cup topscorer Koo Ja-cheol, after Swiss club Young Boys thought it had a deal for the South Korea midfielder.

FIFA says the Switzerland Football Association is seeking clarification of Koo's international clearance to play in Germany.

Young Boys believed it had agreement with Koo's Korean club Jeju United before the Asian Cup.

Koo's value rose by scoring five goals as South Korea reached the semifinals, losing on penalties to eventual champion Japan.

Wolfsburg then signed 21-year-old Koo to a 3 1/2-year contract on Monday's transfer deadline.

FIFA says that was approved through its online transfer system which requires consent from both clubs.
