Fergie expects United duo to stay on
Scholes is already considering a one-year extension to his present contract, but has yet to indicate a desire to sign it. Neville was equally non-committal about his future following Wednesday's Champions League victory over AC Milan, insisting he was concentrating purely on his performances for Manchester United. Yet the 35-year-old is doing well enough to be regarded as England's third choice right-back and could yet end up in South Africa if injuries are a problem to the two men above him in Fabio Capello's pecking order, Glen Johnson and Old Trafford team-mate Wes Brown. Even to get to this stage is testament to Neville's fortitude given he has been beset by injury over the last three seasons. But Ferguson has nothing but praise for the veteran defender, who he feels can squeeze another season out of his body at the end of a remarkable career. "Gary Neville is a player of will," said Ferguson. "He has got where he is in life because he has the will to do it. "When you are out of the game for so long at his age it is not easy. "We don't bring him in every week because we know the nature of his body. "But on Wednesday he was outstanding. At 35 years of age his drive is a great example to anybody and I can see him playing next season." Ferguson will wait before having any discussions with Neville or Scholes about their futures, knowing there is no time-scale required for players who are part of the United fabric. Scholes expressed reservations about his own form just after Christmas, although since then, the midfielder has been a major influence on United's charge to glory on so many fronts, grabbing his 100th Premier League goal as well at Wolves last weekend. "I expect Paul to stay next year but I haven't spoken to him about it," said Ferguson. Meanwhile, the United boss confirmed influential utility man John O'Shea could be back at the beginning of April. O'Shea suffered a dead leg during the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off defeat to France in November and was initially expected to be sidelined only for a matter of weeks. However, the Waterford-born player developed a blood clot and was subsequently ruled out for the season. Since then though, O'Shea has made good progress and Ferguson expects to see him back in action within a month.
